4 September 2022, Kuala Kangsar – Perak is the first state to launch the Perak Food Security Action Plan 2022 – 2030. The soft launching ceremony of this action plan which took place at the Millennium Hall, Lubok Merbau, Kuala Kangsar, was officiated by YAB Dato’ Seri Saarani Mohamad, Perak’s Menteri Besar.

This action plan is an initiative of the Perak State Government via the collaboration between the Perak State Agricultural Development Corporation (Perak SADC) and Institute Darul Ridzuan (IDR), in an effort to mobilise one of the six main agendas of Perak Sejahtera 2030 which is Food Security.

The Perak State Government is committed to spearhead the food security sector in order to reduce dependence on imported food. Efforts will be based on the advantages and potentials, found within the State of Perak, to mobilise the existing resources to advance the agricultural sector towards food security.

In addition, the State Government has also outlined the goal of providing food supply that is nutritious, safe and of good quality through the food production that is stable, continuous and resilient to climate change for the well-being of the people of Perak.

Through the Perak State Food Security Action Plan 2022 – 2030, efforts will focus on increasing domestic supply and diversifying import sources; increasing private and community involvement in the food chain system; ensuring availability of food that is safe at reasonable prices and promoting healthy eating habits; and strengthening the State’s ability in achieving food security goals for the people of Perak.

The implementation of this Action Plan relies on six (6) main focuses. They are:

  1. Optimising resources & increasing production
  2. Empowering the use of technology
  3. Strengthening governance
  1. Empowerment via better usage of Data and Research
  2. Strengthening strategic cooperation and investment
  3. Empowering of the circular economy

The State of Perak aims to become the leading Food Security Hub in Malaysia, and in the Southeast Asian region. It is hoped that through these efforts, the economy of Perak will strengthen and at the same time provide employment opportunities for her people.
